A parked SUV containing gas cylinders and other flammable materials exploded on a residential street in New York City on Friday, damaging homes, other vehicles and overhead power lines, fire officials said.

In commemorating the federal holiday, New York will host the NYC Veterans Day Parade, an event which will prompt road closures in Manhattan. Before the holiday, the city will also see a stretch of Broadway be closed to traffic to accommodate the Village Fall Fair on Saturday.
