CHICAGO - A man was robbed at gunpoint on Chicago's Near North Side early Tuesday. At about 2:40 a.m., a 44-year-old man was getting into his vehicle near the 100 block of East Ohio Street when a white sedan, possibly a Lexus, pulled up behind him, police said.

Crime is up in Chicago despite city-wide efforts – and more than $180 million – to reduce violence through a series of programs. Republican state Rep. John Cabello said Chicago’s rising crime rate amounts to an indictment of the state’s present legal system and all its recent changes.

A woman was shot and critically wounded in the South Shore neighborhood Thursday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., the woman was shot at 6826 S. Cornell Ave., just south of Jackson Park. She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
